What does it mean to be great? Some of us may think that to be
great, we must have lots of money and property. Some of us may
think that to be great, we must be highly educated. Some of us may think that
to be great, we must have lots of titles and honours. But what is
greatness really?
In today's Gospel, Jesus taught His
disciples: "'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?' So he called
a little child to him and set the child in front of them. Then he said,
'I tell you solemnly, unless you change and become like little children
you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. And so, the one who makes
himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of
heaven.'" Like little children, when we learn
to be humble and depend on our Heavenly Father for His help, guidance
and providence, then we are learning what greatness really means. We begin to realise that being great is not for
ourselves, but for the glory of God. May we strive to do God's will, and in all we do give God the glory.
